Mark Haskins

Mark Haskins

HEIGHT: 5'9"

WEIGHT: 180lbs

HOMETOWN:
Portsmouth, Hampshire

FINISHING MOVE:
Skin Cutter

BIO: Ignore the brashness. Disregard the arrogant swagger. Overlook the insufferable gloating and the snarling attitude towards the fans. The bottom line is that Mark Haskins is hugely talented. The self-proclaimed "Star Attraction" is one of the top flyweights in the country today, picking up championships in many of the top promotions in the UK. He is a graduate of the legendary FWA Academy and has proven his ability against some of the best wrestlers in the world over the past couple of years.

Haskins' only appearance in the new FWA to date was in the Fatal Four-Way qualifying match for the Flyweight Title Round Robin at New Frontiers. Although he was the first man eliminated on that night, this detestable young man unfortunately remains a very difficult man to defeat. Like him or not, Mark Haskins is likely to be at the forefront of British wrestling for many years to come.

RJ Singh

RJ Singh - Photo by Tony Knox

RJ Singh

HEIGHT: 5'10"

WEIGHT: 168lbs

HOMETOWN:
Bombay, India

BIO: On July 30th 2005, a man called Ross Jordan made headlines across the wrestling world by becoming the first ever FWA Flyweight Champion.

Unfortunately this early success appeared to go to his head - wanting to extend the reach of his "brand", the brash youngster travelled to India for a minor role in a Bollywood movie. Convinced that he was now a major star across Asia, Jordan soon started referring to himself as "The Bollywood Dream" and demanded that he be known by the name RJ Singh, having disowned the UK.

Fast forward to the present day and unfortunately he is still as deluded as ever, forcing his autograph onto unwilling fans and taking exception to anyone who questions his fame. Notoriously insecure, he has recently been tormenting El Ligero, whose popularity with fans seems to enrage Singh. Promising to destroy the Mexican star by "taking away his originality", the self-proclaimed movie star unleashed a shocking assault on him at Hotwired and forced members of his entourage to saw the trademark horns off his rival's mask. It was an inhuman assault on the thing that most clearly symbolises El Ligero's identity and heritage, and an ominous statement of just how ruthless Singh was prepared to be.

Singh controversially defeated El Ligero in the first match of the Flyweight Title Round Robin and subsequently got embroiled in a series of heated confrontations with his next opponent, Rockstar Spud. The two egomaniacs were expected to finally settle their differences at The Art of War, but instead it was El Ligero who had the last laugh - costing Singh the match and leaving his chances of tournament victory hanging by a thread.

Despite this, some observers are still picking the delusional Indian "star" to walk away with the gold just as he did back in 2005. Amongst all of the incessant self-promotion and violent outbursts, it is easy to forget that this FWA Academy graduate is actually a hugely gifted in-ring performer - he may be waiting a long time for success on the big screen, but glory in the wrestling ring could be just around the corner for RJ Singh.

Joel Redman

Joel Redman - Photo by Tony Knox

Joel Redman

HEIGHT: 6'1"

WEIGHT: 240lbs

HOMETOWN:
Exter, Devon

FINISHING MOVE:
Twisting brainbuster

BIO: Having grown up on an isolated farm in Devon, Joel Redman never learned to form relationships with other people. Instead he grew accustomed to the harsh indifference of nature, learning from his father how to wring the necks of chickens and to shoot any scavenging animals that tried to feed on the crops in the field. By the time he reached adulthood Redman had come to enjoy the control he could exert over other living things, and he discovered that professional wrestling provided an outlet for this sadistic pleasure. From his first day in the ring Redman adopted a callous, merciless approach to attacking his opponents, systematically taking them apart one limb at a time. He became a skilled mat technician, and spent endless nights studying video footage to teach himself new ways of stretching and torturing his opponents into submission.

When the FWA re-opened in August 2009 Redman was arguably the best all-round athlete on the roster, but despite this he was knocked out of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament at the quarter final stage. Clearly frustrated at his failure to show dominance over everyone around him, Redman soon became part of The Agenda - a group whose explicit aim is to decimate and destroy everyone else on the British wrestling circuit. The "Physical Specimen" is clearly thriving in this new faction, taking great pleasure in isolating other FWA wrestlers and trying to end their careers for his own satisfaction. It seems that Redman's ultimate agenda is to annihilate all of the best talent in Britain before moving on to America and ruling the wrestling world. For fans and other wrestlers alike it is difficult to tell which is the scarier prospect - the sadism that seems to underpin Redman's bold ambitions, or the fact that he may have the talent to make those goals a reality.

Iestyn Rees

Iestyn Rees - Photo by Tony Knox

Iestyn Rees

HEIGHT: 6'6"

HOMETOWN:
Gloucester

FINISHING MOVE:
Powerbomb

BIO: Iestyn Rees was tipped for greatness by many experts almost as soon as he started training to be a wrestler. At 6'6" and with a physique that would turn heads at any gym in the country, the former basketball player seemed to have all of the tools to become a top-tier superstar. But one attribute he never had was patience - frustrated at his lack of instant success in the industry, Rees soon started taking cutting corners and bending rules to make a name for himself. And it worked - soon he was picking up major victories in promotions across the country.

Rees was injured when the FWA re-launched in the summer of 2009 so did not make his mark until British Uproar the following February, when he leapt a crowd barrier to deliver a beating to Darren Burridge. Having apparently aligned himself with Joel Redman and Dave Moralez on that night, his long-term plans became clear a month later when it emerged that the three men were part of Martin Stone's pernicious Agenda. Together they plan to decimate British wrestling in order to demonstrate their abilities to their prospective American employers.

At The Art of War, Rees showed just how little respect he has for British wrestling during the 8-man main event. First he was instrumental in inflicting potentially serious injuries to both Terry Frazier and Sha Samuels. Then, after the match he went on a rampage in the aisle, and even pushed FWA Managing Director Tony Simpson to the floor during the ensuing scuffle. This is a man who clearly sees himself as above almost everyone else in the locker room, and has no qualms about injuring others for the sake of his own gain.

Convinced that championship gold is his God-given right, the "irresistible" one is promising to dominate British wrestling in the months ahead and believes that a big money deal in the United States is inevitable. Unfortunately for everyone else, he may well be right.

Jonny Storm

Jonny Storm - Photo by Tony Knox

Jonny Storm

HEIGHT: 5'7"

WEIGHT: 172lbs

HOMETOWN:
Harlow, Essex

FINISHING MOVE:
Wonderwhirl

BIO: Considered one of the most consistent performers of his generation, Jonny Storm has been wowing crowds around the world for over 12 years now. In the old FWA, he was a two-time All England Champion and his matches against Jody Fleisch gained him global recognition. A showman with cat-like agility and a remarkable willingness to put his body on the line in pursuit of victory, "The Wonderkid" is back in the promotion where his career took off, and is showing that at 32 years of age he is better than ever.

Since the FWA re-launch at New Frontiers, Storm has been embroiled in a dispute with the brash Rockstar Spud. Perhaps seeing some of his younger self in his new enemy, Storm has been on a mission to teach Spud some respect since the youngster cheated to eliminate him from the Flyweight Title Tournament. "The Wonderkid" returned the favour by controversially using the ropes to gain a pinfall victory in the World Heavyweight Title tournament, evening the score.

It still was not over. Spud did everything in his power to stop Storm from advancing any further through the field at Carpe Diem, tampering with his car engine in an unsuccessful attempt to make him miss his match. That plan backfired in spectacular fashion when Storm interrupted a musical performance by the self-proclaimed "rock god" later in the evening. But Spud would get the last laugh that night, causing a diversion which allowed Andrew Simmons to gain a decisive advantage in his quarter final with Storm. Next, the "Wonderkid" pinned Spud in a tag match at Hotwired after dropping the brash youngster on his head, further fanning the flames of hatred between the two.

Storm's 2010 looked for a while as though it was over before it had begun. At British Uproar his loss of a "Last Chance Saloon" match meant that he was barred from competing for the World Heavyweight Championship for 12 months. Having also failed to qualify for the Flyweight Title Round Robin, things were looking bleak for the charismatic veteran - but then he was handed a lifeline. The unfortunate injury to Bubblegum gave him an opportunity to re-enter the latter competition, and he grabbed the chance with both hands by pinning El Ligero at The Art of War. Although he is now back in contention for flyweight gold, he has a mountain to climb if he is to make up for lost time and win the tournament. Still, if anyone can pull it off it is surely Storm - after all, they don't call him the "Wonderkid" for nothing...

"The Rockstar" Spud

Spud - Photo by Tony Knox

"The Rockstar" Spud

HEIGHT: 5'3"

WEIGHT: 130lbs

HOMETOWN:
Rock City, Birmingham

FINISHING MOVE:
Rockstar Stunner

BIO: Leopard-skin tights and gallons of hairspray might not be the look that most musicians go for nowadays, but clearly no-one has told this to Rockstar Spud. Convinced that he is the biggest star in the world, this loudmouthed youngster has strutted into the FWA with a fashion sense and attitude that the rest of the world left behind at the end of the 1980s.

Nonetheless, it would be foolish to underestimate a competitor who has enjoyed such success - despite his small frame, Rockstar Spud has been making waves since his arrival in the FWA at New Frontiers. He pinned Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm in quick succession to win his debut match and qualify for the Flyweight Title Round Robin, but incurred the wrath of "The Wonderkid" by using the ropes for leverage when pinning him. This was to be the start of a prolonged feud between the two men, with each costing the other their place in the World Heavyweight Championship tournament and Storm almost ending his enemy's career at Hotwired after dropping him on his head.

Undeterred by this setback, the would-be musical megastar has become more obnoxious than ever, declaring himself the "Baby Jesus of British Wrestling" as he has focused his attention on the Flyweight Title Tournament in recent months. Many fans may still be hoping to see someone wring this brash young athlete's neck but they may be disappointed - if Spud has his way, his performances in the FWA will be the first of many successful encores on the path to rock n' roll superstardom.

El Ligero

El Ligero - Photo by Tony Knox

El Ligero

HEIGHT: 5'10"

WEIGHT: 168lbs

HOMETOWN:
Guadalajara, Mexico

FINISHING MOVE:
The C4L DDT

BIO: Arriba! The high-flying, risk-taking, death-defying El Ligero is one of the most popular stars in UK wrestling and it is easy to see why - he has dazzled crowds in every part of the country with some of the most exciting performances ever seen on these shores. Having first competed for the FWA in August 2005, the masked luchador from Los Sanchos has since been instrumental in keeping British flyweight wrestling on the map.

In early 2009 El Ligero suffered a shoulder injury that put him on the shelf for over half a year, but he apparently used his time off to learn English and he appeared at New Frontiers in August to personally update fans on his status. But before he could speak he was interrupted by the jealous RJ Singh, who threatened the Mexican Sensation with violence and promised to destroy his legacy by "taking away his originality". The self-proclaimed movie star then unleashed a shocking assault on him at Hotwired and forced members of his entourage to saw the trademark horns off his rival's mask. It was an inhuman assault on the thing that most clearly symbolises El Ligero's identity and heritage.

Immediately before that attack, El Ligero became the final qualifier for the FWA Flyweight Title Round Robin Tournament. With Singh also among the entrants, the two men soon found themselves in the same ring again, with the "Bollywood Dream" gaining a tainted win at British Uproar that did nothing to end the bad blood between the two men. El Ligero has since got a measure of payback by costing his nemesis a second victory in the tournament, and both men are still in contention to win the competition as it heads into its final phase. Regardless of who wins the flyweight belt though, it seems inevitable that these two men are destined to clash again in the coming months. When they do, El Ligero will be hoping to take down Singh with the kind of high-flying, acrobatic offence on which he has built the reputation that the "Bollywood Dream" is trying to destroy.

Leroy Kincaide

Leroy Kincaide - Photo by Tony Knox

Leroy Kincaide

HOMETOWN:
Maidstone, Kent

FINISHING MOVE:
Spiral Tap

BIO: Look up the word "powerhouse" in the dictionary and you may well find a picture of Leroy Kincaide.

One of the strongest and toughest men in Britain today, the former All-England Champion is truly a force to be reckoned with - not just in the wrestling world but in hip hop too, where he has a very promising music career. This multi-talented star has long seemed destined for great success in both of his chosen industries.

However, there is another word that has unexpectedly become associated with Kincaide in recent months: "Leader". At British Uproar, having earlier earned the number one contendership for the World Heavyweight Title in a scintillating triple threat match, he was the first man to break from the pack and challenge Martin Stone in the moments after the new champion's shocking betrayal. On that night, in that single moment, Leroy Kincaide became the unlikely leader of the FWA's makeshift Resistance against Stone's plans to pillage British wrestling.

Since that fateful evening Kincaide has started to resemble a general leading his troops into battle. At Battle Lines he had the chance to snatch the gold from Stone at the first time of asking, but was thwarted when the champion's new allies Moralez, Redman and Rees made the save. But the Resistance bounced back at The Art of War, when Kincaide was the sole survivor of an unforgettable 8-man war between the two sides. As a result of that the Kent-based athlete has earned a second shot at Stone, which he intends to use at Hope and Glory. If he can claim the title at the biggest event of the summer and then go on to lead the Resistance to a lasting victory over the Agenda then Leroy Kincaide may become more than just a "powerhouse" or a "leader": at that point he would be well on his way to being a bona fide urban legend.

Jody Fleisch

Bubblegum - Photo by Tony Knox

Jody Fleisch

HEIGHT: 5'8"

WEIGHT: 200lbs

HOMETOWN:
Wathamstow, East London

FINISHING MOVE:
720 DDT

BIO: If the current stars of the FWA want to know who paved the way for their success, one of the first people they should be looking to thank is Jody Fleisch. The former two-time British Heavyweight Champion was at the heart of many of the promotion's most memorable moments in the early part of this decade, becoming one of the most successful stars the UK has produced. Fleisch has gone on to star in some of the greatest wrestling promotions on the planet including Ring of Honor and Combat Zone Wrestling.

In August 2009, seven years after the legendary moonsault that earned him championship gold at British Uprising, the Phoenix returned to the FWA hoping to rise from the ashes and recreate his previous glory by qualifying for the FWA Flyweight Title Round Robin. On that night he was unsuccessful despite an impressive performance that proved he had lost none of his old magic. Fans around the country will surely be hoping that the match at New Frontiers was not a one-off, because if Fleisch decides to make a more permanent return then he could surely produce just as many unforgettable scenes in the new FWA as he did in the old.

Derice Coffie

Bubblegum - Photo by Tony Knox

Derice Coffie

HEIGHT:

WEIGHT:

HOMETOWN:
Kingston, Jamaica

FINISHING MOVE:
Cool Runnings

BIO: One of the most likeable youngsters in the FWA, Derice Coffie brings a smile to fans' faces whenever he competes. The young man from the Caribbean first showed his fighting spirit in a battle royal prior to Carpe Diem where he courageously challenged the monstrous Johnny Moss. Having been impressed with his efforts on that night, FWA management granted the fun-loving competitor a chance to qualify for the Flyweight Title Round Robin Tournament the following month but Coffie came up just short against his friend El Ligero.

Since the start of 2010 Coffie has found himself wrestling against two of the other stars who qualified for that tournament. First, at British Uproar, he fought in a bizarre contest against Rockstar Spud and suffered a personal tragedy when his lucky egg was smashed by his heartless opponent. Then, at Battle Lines, he was pinned in a tag team match by RJ Singh.

Still without a win in the new FWA, it seems as though Coffie is just a step or two away from making the breakthrough and becoming a successful part of the flyweight division. Of course, sometimes wrestlers can get stuck at this point for their entire careers, so perhaps this young Jamaican may have to eventually stop playing the clown if he is going to ensure that his promising career lives up to its potential.
